Series: Blindsight / Firefall — #2
Daniel Bruks, a baseline human biologist, is swept up in a conflict between weaponized monks, military vampires, and a vast alien intelligence that may have infiltrated Earth's biosphere. Stranded aboard a ship controlled by an entity he cannot comprehend, Bruks confronts the growing irrelevance of unaugmented human cognition in a world where posthuman hive minds and resurrected predators set the rules. The novel extends Blindsight's thesis that consciousness may be an evolutionary liability, while asking whether faith and free will have any meaning when the universe runs on deterministic physics.
